A Toast To Brain Health

The media has been full of stories on unhealthy repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, including a rise in the purchase of alcoholic beverages. Obviously we all agree that overindulging in alcohol is harmful for body and brain. Yet is a glass of wine after a stressful day altogether a bad thing?

New research published by the Journal of American Medical Association confirms that enjoying a small amount of alcohol can actually provide healthy brain benefits. A glass or two of wine at the end of a busy day can do wonders for sweeping away stress. Scientists worked with almost 20,000 participants over a decade to examine cognitive outcomes correlated with alcohol intake. Scientists concluded, “These findings suggested that low to moderate alcohol drinking was associated with better global cognition scores” for middle age to older adults. Cabernet, anyone?
